Matching gloves and smartphone sac

Playing around with glove designs invariably leads to some discarded pieces.  Lately these have been reworked into phone covers.   To make a snug fit the glove scraps have been felted in the wash.  However, felting leads to fading.  Despite this they have become a popular accessory to the extent I am now actually making an un-felted version.

The first Smartphone Sac design seems to have resulted in a reasonable one size fits all phone cover to protect screens from scratching.  Inspired by the highly decorated cuffs found on Estonian gloves the knitted braids or vits give a thick stretchy fabric.  The cover illustrated has been made to match a pair of gloves as a gift and made after the gloves. It could so easily be made as swatch or test piece to check colour combinations for any project.

The braided cuffs can be quite time consuming, can lead to tangled yarns and lots of ends.  Having now worked a few cuffs I have come up with a strategy to try and control the tangles and keep sewing down to a minimum – more about this in my next post.  Despite this though it is not the quickest project!

The smartphone sac is just about as nice as the gloves :)
