Sausage Fingers Sorted

Rounded tops and spiral tops

Rounded tops and spiral tops

In my last post I wrestled with adding a thumb gusset to a pair of gloves.  Result – both size and pattern placement are about as good as I could hope for.  However, what I am more pleased with is the finger tip finishing.  The combination of stranded knitting and 4 ply/fingering yarns does give a sausage like look to fingers which is accentuated when the finger tips are rounded.

Spiral topped fingers a little more elegant.

Adding a spiral top makes all the difference as the fingers appear elongated and much more elegant.  It is so easy – just decrease a stitch at one end of each needle until there are just  two or three stitches left on each needle and secure with the tail yarn.  The jury is still out as to whether two or three stitches is best.

these look terrific, and I’m definitely going to use the finger decrease. The look is much more pleasing than the usual way — definitely time to work outside the box LOL

…and I think it looks a bit more feminine than a triangular top. I cannot take credit though. Look at page 99 and page 124 of Designs and Patterns from Muhu Island. It looks even better worked on the finer yarns.
